Inclusivity In Sports
We believe that sports have the power to transcend differences and create a sense of belonging. Our foundation works to ensure that every athlete, regardless of their ability, has the chance to participate.
The Penguins Goals Foundation embraces the spirit of inclusivity in all sports. Our dedication goes beyond the ice as we volunteer and contribute to ensure everyone can experience the joys of sports.
Challenger Baseball
During the off-season, the staff plays alongside Challenger Baseball, a program tailored for individuals with disabilities. We stand with Challenger Baseball and its athletes, united in the belief that sports should be for everyone.
American Special
Hockey Association
The Penguins Goals Foundation proudly hosts the annual American Special Hockey Association (ASHA) Mid-Atlantic Kickoff event. The event welcomes all athletes at all levels, from seasoned ASHA athletes to local community members with special needs who wish to experience the thrill of hockey for the first time. Through skills clinics and friendly exhibition games, all participants are empowered to play.
Together, we celebrate the transformative power of hockey, proving the ice (and the Dek) knows no limitations.
Opportunity in Sports
The Penguins Goals Foundation doesn’t just advocate for opportunity – we actively create it, nurturing a future where sports foster growth, empowerment, and shared achievement.
Dek Hockey
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Toyota SportsPlex introduced the sport of Dek Hockey to NEPA with the help of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. The first outdoor rink in the area was completed in October of 2022.
The equipment required is minimal compared to ice hockey – players only need sneakers, a stick, and a ball. This cost-effective setup removes the barriers to participation, allowing individuals from diverse economic backgrounds to partake without the burden of high expenses.
Dek Hockey welcomes players of all skill levels and ages. It’s not just for those who have honed their skills on ice; beginners, youngsters, and even adults looking for recreational exercise can engage in the sport. For information about leagues and learn to play clinics, please see the Toyota SportsPlex Dek Hockey website:
Accessibility in Sports
We believe that hockey should be for everyone, and the sport represents the unity, resilience, and diversity of Northeast PA. Our organization is dedicated to enhancing the approachability of hockey to enrich the game and our community.
